Spain
An exclusive wildlife photography journey into the rugged landscapes of Spain in search of the elusive Iberian lynx, majestic eagles and spectacular raptors.
HIGHLIGHTS
Europe’s Rarest Wildcat
The Iberian lynx fell to fewer than 100 animals in 2002 and has since recovered to more than 2,000. Photograph this conservation success story from purpose-built hides placed where lynx activity is well documented.
Eagles And Owls Too
Dedicated bird of prey sessions target Bonelli’s Eagle, Golden Eagle, Eagle Owl and Little Owl in rugged Spanish landscapes. It’s a far more varied portfolio than a single-species trip can offer.
Small Groups
With a maximum of five guests and all levels welcome, you get personal attention. An experienced photographic host and local experts who know the lynx’s movements advise on settings, focusing and composition for hides.

Q&A: Your Questions Answered
Q: What are the main photographic subjects on the Wild Iberia trip?
A: The Iberian lynx remains the star of the trip, but the expanded Wild Iberia experience also focuses on birds of prey and the wider wildlife of the Spanish landscape. This gives you the opportunity to build a much more varied portfolio than a single-species trip.
Q: What makes the Iberian lynx so special?
A: The Iberian lynx is one of Europe’s most elusive and distinctive wild cats, and it's the subject of a modern conservation success story. Also, for lovers of cats specifically, the Iberian Lynx is a unique species and not a sub-species of another lynx.
Q: Which birds of prey are we likely to photograph in April?
A: While wildlife can be unpredictable, we hope to photograph all (or at least most) of these: Bonelli’s Eagle, Little Owl, Golden Eagle or an Eagle Owl.
Q: Do I need to be an experienced wildlife photographer?
A: No. All levels are welcome. The trip is designed around practical photographic guidance, helping you understand how to anticipate wildlife behaviour, work with available light and create stronger compositions while maintaining a respectful distance from the animals.
Wild Iberia: Lynx & Birds Of Prey
The Iberian lynx was once the world’s rarest cat, with fewer than 100 individuals left in 2002, but thanks to major conservation efforts in Spain and Portugal the population has recovered to more than 2,000, making it one of Europe’s greatest wildlife success stories.
This workshop is structured around maximising your chances of meaningful encounters, with long sessions in purpose-built hides positioned where lynx and bird of prey activity is well documented, so you can observe behaviour, anticipate movement and work carefully with light and background, and be in position when the moment comes. The lynx has hunted in these hills, tracks and scrublands for generations, where the terrain offers cover, vantage points and hunting corridors, and its survival here rests on the European rabbit, which makes up most of its diet. When rabbit numbers collapsed through disease and habitat loss, lynx numbers fell dramatically, and recovery began with the reintroduction and protection of rabbits, supported by habitat restoration, disease management and carefully managed breeding programmes.

Photographing lynx here means witnessing the result of decades of dedicated conservation work. Seeing one in the wild is a privilege. Sightings can never be guaranteed, but the combination of location, timing and hide access offers an opportunity that is exceptionally difficult to replicate independently, and when a lynx appears it is often unhurried, giving you the chance to create images with depth, atmosphere and authenticity. Spain is not only about the lynx, and the hides also offer impressive birds of prey.
An experienced photographic host works alongside local experts who know the land and the lynx’s movement patterns, offering subtle, tailored guidance on camera settings, focusing techniques and composition suited to hide photography, so you can work at your own pace with quiet confidence, patience and preparation.

Between sessions you return to comfortable accommodation close to the photographic areas, with space to rest, review images and prepare for the next session, balancing intensity in the field with calm downtime.
You will leave with a carefully curated set of photographs of one of Europe’s rarest wildlife subjects, greater confidence working patiently in controlled field conditions, and practical techniques that will elevate your photography well beyond this trip, having experienced wildlife photography as it should be: unhurried, respectful and deeply rewarding.
