Witness Norfolk’s coast alive with newborn grey seals. Gentle moments, soft light, and intimate wildlife encounters make this one of Britain’s most magical winter spectacles.

Summary
Capturing the enchanting grey seal pups along Norfolk's picturesque coastline is a must-do for any nature photographer. These captivating creatures are a true marvel to witness, with their soulful eyes and soft, fluffy coats that seem to beg to be photographed.
With the right technique and a keen eye for composition, you can create images that not only document these enchanting creatures but also evoke a sense of wonder and appreciation for the natural world. Photographing the grey seal pups on Norfolk's coast is a truly rewarding experience that will leave you with a newfound appreciation for the beauty and grace of these marine mammals.
Basic Itinerary
Day 1 - Travel Day & Landscape Photography
We meet at our accommodation close to the area (within 20-30mins by car) where we will be photographing the seals. Once we are all installed and depending on the time and the weather, we may go do a sunset at one of the windmills, lighthouses or other landmarks in the area.
Meals: Dinner
Day 2 - Seals
An early start before sunrise to make sure we are installed and not likely to disturb the seals as we approach. Then we expect to photograph for 2-4 hours depending on many factors including quantity of seals, weather, opportunities, etc
We then return to our lodge for a wholesome brunch. In the afternoon, starting at 11:30, we depart for a boat drive along the Norfolk Broads where we hope to see and photograph bittern, grebes, swans, etc
Meals: Light Breakfast, Brunch & Dinner
Day 3 - Seals & Post-processing
Much the same as yesterday, except that in the evening we will all be entertained by a post-processing workshop of about 2 hours. There is no need to bring your own computer and try to follow along as a recording of the session will be made and distributed to everyone. That way, you can go through everything in your own time. You may however want to bring your PC along to review and download your images and to take advantage of the free wi-fi (if available)
Meals: Light Breakfast, Brunch & Dinner
Day 4 - Seals & Group Breakfast
We have one final morning with the seals and after our shoot we can all make our way home. Those wishing to stay on for breakfast are welcome to join in at Poppylands 1940s Tearoom (in Horsey) who make an excellent breakfast and are a themed tearoom - an instant favourite for those that visit. Breakfast is included and the bill will be settled by your guide.
Meals: Full Breakfast
Tuition, Field Craft, Techniques
Besides the one scheduled editing sessions on day 3, there will be continuous tips and advice on Photography, Lightroom, Photoshop and Field Craft and we will also learn about the animals we encounter from our host. I encourage everyone to listen and learn during the tuition sessions and a laptop isn't essential, as the host will have their own, meaning you can make the most of this opportunity whilst still keeping your luggage light. A recording of what is covered during these sessions, will be made available after the trip.
What To Expect
What to bring (this will not be provided by your host)
Your photographic equipment - check recommendations
Any medication you may need for the duration of the tour.
Unless there is a huge downpour, we will still continue to photograph. Please bring what you would consider to be suitable clothing and camera/lens cover.
Optional: Tripod
Walking during the workshop
There is some walking to reach the best places for photography and also to stay clear of vulnerable seals. Apart from this, there should be no further strenuous walking.
Transportation and Parking
The guest house has some parking available, but you may need to leave your vehicle in the street if that is all taken.
Food
A quick Breakfast, Brunch and Dinner is included and will be prepared at the guest house - any allergies and special requirements will need to be advised and arranged prior to departure.
On the final day, we will all go to Poppylands 1940s Tearoom for a fantastic full breakfast (included)
Photographic Experience
Whatever your knowledge and experience, you are welcome! All levels of photography are catered for.
IMPORTANT
Travel Insurance
Travel insurance is a requirement for joining any wildlife photography tour or workshop arranged by Focused On Wildlife (or our partners). Please ensure you have a comprehensive policy in place before departure. We recommend choosing a reputable provider you already trust, with cover that includes medical emergencies, cancellations, and delays.
Equipment Insurance
Your camera gear is one of your most valuable investments. On our tours, you may be travelling into remote and sometimes unpredictable environments, where accidents, loss, or theft can occur. It’s essential that your photographic equipment is properly insured before you travel.
Wildlife photography often involves capturing once-in-a-lifetime moments. By insuring your kit, you’ll have peace of mind that, should the unexpected happen, you’re protected financially. This allows you to stay focused on what really matters: immersing yourself in nature and bringing home unforgettable images.

Photos from past trips to inspire you ...
"I am so glad I arranged to go on this trip, as I would never have known where to go to get good low level photos of the seals. Victor was knowledgeable and helpful, and gave some great info on how to get the best images. The accommodation was really comfortable and there was plenty of food to go round. Far too many tempting chocolates and biscuits though!
The trip ran smoothly and did everything it said it would. Even with quite challenging weather at times, it was great. I wouldn't hesitate to book with Victor again. Thank you!"

"Hi Victor and Vanessa, just a quick note to say thank you for a great trip to Norfolk. I was a bit apprehensive and as you all knew each other I felt even more so! You all made me feel very welcome and part of the group and comfortable.
Thanks as well for your time in showing me different things and for the great food and the use of the en-suite.
I would love to join you on another trip - I won’t bother to bring my tea making equipment next time"

"I just want to thank you for a wonderful visit to Norfolk last week. I so enjoyed your company and learnt such a lot from you both. The seals were amazing and a big tick off the bucket list. I am looking for to editing them when I pick up the new machine next week. Hopefully you will do the bears in 2026 so I can book again. Have a good Christmas and animal filled New Year!"
