Summary
This stunning island is home to a diverse range of species, from majestic eagles soaring overhead to playful otters frolicking along the coast, providing countless opportunities for breathtaking shots.
Basic Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival Day – Glasgow to the Isle of Mull
Upon arrival at Glasgow Airport, we collect our rental vehicle and make our way toward Oban to catch the ferry to the Isle of Mull. After a scenic ferry crossing, we arrive on Mull, ready to embark on our first afternoon of photography.
Although check-in at our accommodation is after 5 PM, there is plenty of time to explore the surrounding landscapes and wildlife. Our main focus will be spotting otters, and with a bit of luck, we may even glimpse some Red Deer that inhabit the island. Cameras at the ready, the excitement builds as we begin capturing the magic of this remarkable location.

Day 2: Day Trip to Lunga via Staffa
Today is dedicated to our unforgettable excursion to Lunga. The 6-hour journey includes opportunities along the way to spot and photograph a variety of species, as well as a short stop at Staffa, famous for its dramatic basalt columns and the legendary Fingal’s Cave—an absolute highlight to experience.
On arrival at Lunga, we will spend time photographing a thriving colony of around 2,000 puffins, along with other seabirds, in their natural habitat. This is always a magical experience and a true highlight of the trip.
It’s a full and rewarding day, and by the time we return, guests are usually ready for a relaxed evening. Dinner will likely be later and kept easy to allow everyone to rest after such an inspiring day.

Day 3: A Gentle Start & Otter Focus
After yesterday’s full adventure, today begins at a more relaxed pace. Guests are free to enjoy a lie-in and rise as early—or as late—as they wish. Once everyone is ready, we’ll head out in the mid-morning or afternoon for another dedicated session of wildlife photography.
Our main focus will once again be Mull’s iconic otters, though we’ll keep our eyes open for the many other species that make this island so special. On Mull, there is always something happening, ensuring no two outings are ever the same.

Day 4: Full Day with Mull’s Otters
Today we’ll be heading out bright and early—before breakfast—for a dedicated otter photography session. By now, we should already know some of the best locations, so this morning is all about refining our techniques and capturing outstanding images of these charismatic animals in their natural habitat.
After the morning adventure, we’ll return to the property to refuel and rest briefly before heading out again. The entire day is devoted to otters, offering plenty of opportunities to observe and photograph their playful behaviour against Mull’s stunning backdrops.

Day 5: Eagle Day with a Private Charter Experience
Today is all about the magnificent White-tailed Eagles! For those who wish, we can begin with another early otter session—always worth the effort (sleep can wait!). After spending some time with these elusive creatures, we’ll prepare for the highlight of the day: an exhilarating private charter with Mull Charter Boats.
This exclusive three-hour trip offers incredible opportunities to photograph White-tailed Eagles up close in their natural environment. With the boat entirely to ourselves, the experience is intimate, focused, and unforgettable—certainly one of the signature moments of the tour.

Day 6: Final Morning – Flexible Otter Session
On our last morning together, we’ll remain flexible. If conditions allow and otters have been spotted nearby, we’ll make one final attempt to photograph them before departure. The exact plan will depend on sightings and everyone’s individual travel arrangements.
It’s a gentle close to the trip, with time to reflect on the incredible wildlife, memorable encounters, and photographs we’ve captured on Mull.
Tuition, Field Craft, Techniques
In addition to the scheduled editing session, you’ll receive continuous tips and advice throughout the trip on photography techniques, Lightroom, Photoshop, and essential field craft. You’ll also gain insights into the behaviour and ecology of the animals we encounter, adding depth to your photographic experience.
While laptops are welcome, they are not essential—your host will have their own, allowing you to fully benefit from the sessions without the need to carry extra gear. To ensure nothing is missed, a recording of the tuition will be provided after the trip, giving you the chance to revisit and reinforce what you’ve learned.
What To Expect
What to Bring:
Photographic Equipment: Ensure you have all the gear you need for the tour, including cameras, lenses, memory cards, and chargers.
Medication: Bring any personal medication you may require for the duration of the tour.
Clothing: Pack suitable clothing for the conditions. We often continue photographing in the rain, as it can create incredible photo opportunities, but no one is required to go out in wet weather if they prefer not to.
Optional: Tripod or monopod for added stability.
Food
“On-the-go” breakfasts and lunches are provided and included in the price. Dinners are more casual and flexible to accommodate everyone’s preferences. We are near the town of Tobermorey, where we can either dine at one of the local restaurants or purchase ingredients and prepare meals at the house, which features a fully equipped kitchen for our use throughout the stay.
Important: Please inform us of any allergies or special dietary requirements prior to departure so we can make necessary arrangements.
Photographic Experience
All levels of photography are welcome! Whether you are a beginner or an experienced photographer, your photographic host will be available to support and guide you throughout the trip.
IMPORTANT
Travel Insurance
Travel insurance is a requirement for joining any wildlife photography tour or workshop arranged by Focused On Wildlife (or our partners). Please ensure you have a comprehensive policy in place before departure. We recommend choosing a reputable provider you already trust, with cover that includes medical emergencies, cancellations, and delays.
Equipment Insurance
Your camera gear is one of your most valuable investments. On our tours, you may be travelling into remote and sometimes unpredictable environments, where accidents, loss, or theft can occur. It’s essential that your photographic equipment is properly insured before you travel.
Wildlife photography often involves capturing once-in-a-lifetime moments. By insuring your kit, you’ll have peace of mind that, should the unexpected happen, you’re protected financially. This allows you to stay focused on what really matters: immersing yourself in nature and bringing home unforgettable images.

NEED SOME INSPIRATION?
"The trip was 5 star as far as I was concerned. It was a thoroughly enjoyable break. All the participants were great company. The tour hosts were excellent.
Every Animal or Bird that was on the agenda was found, including the bonus of a stalking session on a stretch of River where some great images of a Dipper were had"

Steve L.
Essex, England
"Victor was very helpful, and accommodated our small group with great opportunities for animals we came to see.
The only reason I am giving him 4 instead of 5 stars is that we had to follow him in our rental car. Not familiar with driving on the left side of the road, it was very stressful for us. Those that were in the car with him solidified a better camaraderie in the conversation they were able to have that we missed out on."

Kathy R.
Arizona, USA
"The trip was very enjoyable and well organised with plenty of wildlife shots captured, calm boat trips, blue skies and even a sighting and photo of the elusive Otter."
